CUSTOMER BULLETIN (eleven) Autumn 2008
From David Coory, author of the
nutrition book "Stay Healthy by Supplying
What's Lacking in Your Diet" and Managing Director of Zealand
Publishing House. Dear Valued Customer I was raised in a low income home and know what it’s like to stretch a dollar. So I’m excited to be able to lower the already competitive price our popular Triple Pack a further $16. This is made possible, partly by a better bulk deal with our manufacturer of CoQ10-Omega3 (the price of which we have also dropped by $10). But mostly we are just absorbing the reduced cost, in the hope that the lower price will make it possible for many of our customers who could not previously afford to purchase Triple Packs to do so. I firmly believe our Triple Pack is the very best complete health supplement combination available to New Zealanders. It’s as good as we can make it, and we continually improve it as more research and useful feedback from our customers come to hand. CoQ10-Omega3 We have always received excellent reports on our CoQ10-Omega3. But more and more we hear that some customers obtain higher levels of health and energy by taking two capsules a day. Our Marketing Manager Chris, who also takes two a day reports the same thing. So I have tried this myself over the past few weeks. (Being a bit tight, I’ve only ever taken one a day.) The most noticeable effect for me has been more alertness and a flood of new ideas. Also, I do a crossword each morning to keep my word memory from getting rusty, and are now able to complete it more effortlessly. Whether this is the effect of more CoQ10 or more Omega3, I’m not sure. I suspect both. So to make taking two capsules a day of CoQ10-Omega3 more affordable to you, when you buy a Triple Pack, you can also purchase an extra single bottle of CoQ10-Omega3 at a new, low price of just $45 each. Post-It-On now only pH Saliva Test Strips As part of our cost-cutting efforts to offer you big savings on the Triple Pack (see front page) we have now discontinued the Post-It-On of a free trial bottle of CAA and Coral C. However, every order you place still entitles you to order a free Post-It-On gift pack of 10 pH Saliva Test Strips to be sent to up to four of your family and friends who are not yet our customers. SafeSlim update Developing a healthy appetite suppressant is proving to be a marathon. Brett Elliott the Herbalist and I have so far developed several healthy herbal combinations that suppress appetite, especially when taken as a drink. The most promising so far is an Indian cactus extract called Caralluma, combined with three other herbs. It’s even better than the current world favourite Hoodia, which is also a cactus. However a bad taste of the one of the herbs still needs to be overcome. My wife Marie is complaining that I’m getting too skinny with all my experimenting, so I’m laying off for a week or so. RealSalt more popular than ever Our seasoned RealSalts have proven popular. The best seller, after the plain RealSalt, which still outsells the seasoned by 15 to 1, is the multi-seasoned, followed by the garlic, then the onion. The onion salt seems to be a little damp and hard to shake out, so I’ve advised our American supplier’s of this problem and asked them to look at it in the future. Webpage ordering and Internet banking Our manager Katie Jones has asked me to give a plug for webpage ordering, fax ordering and internet banking. Once mastered, these modern methods are quick and efficient and minimise delays. Sometimes our Call Centre gets a little overloaded at peak times and we don’t like putting our customers on hold. Explanation of Ephraim Health There has been a little confusion by a few customers over the catalogues put out by our Colloidal Silver manufacturer, Ephraim Health of Mount Maunganui. This company is run by my sister and her husband Jim and Tess Maskell. Their main product is Colloidal Silver, however two years ago they asked if they could add some of our Health House products to their range, and also use our advertising, to which I agreed. Because of the quality of their products, they have since grown steadily and now put out a 16 page catalogue with adverts worded very similar to ours. To minimise any confusion, Ephraim Health have now undertaken to rewrite the adverts to give their catalogue a more unique appearance. Both our companies enjoy a good relation-ship with each other. Maintaining your PPM meter Any problem that develops with a Colloidal Silver PPM Meter can usually be traced to a dirty probe face, or a dislodged battery. The probe face can easily be cleaned by applying some soap to a toothbrush. And using hot tap water, scrubbing clean the electrodes in the probe face and the surrounding area. Just as if you were cleaning your teeth. Then rinse the electrodes under a hot running tap and dry with a tissue. If there is no digital read-out when the ON button is pressed, flick the end battery cover off with a kitchen knife, shake out the battery holder, and check that one of the two AAA batteries has not become dislodged. This can easily happen if a PPM meter is dropped. Flat batteries can also cause the same problem, however battery life is usually measured in years. Non-niacin CAA discontinued We have in the past offered Non-Niacin CAA for a small percentage of light-framed women customers who experience light headedness when taking regular CAA. My wife was one of these. We have now discovered this was due to a combination of the citrate chelated Magnesium intensifying the effect of Niacin, as Niacin alone did not cause this effect. We will now be using a different form of Magnesium that is not quite as well absorbed as citrate, but has a much higher magnesium content. However, the end result will be more available magnesium per CAA capsule. In trials it has not caused light headedness. Stevia the healthy sweetener We have an interesting new product coming up shortly. It’s a natural, healthy sweetener from a South American plant called Stevia. It will be available as a small, dissolvable tablet for use in drinks. Each tablet provides the sweetness of 1 level teaspoon of sugar and has only about 1 calorie, compared to 25 for sugar. And unlike sugar, it’s non-fattening. My regular Health Hint can be found below. Kindest regards, David Coory.
HEALTH HINT The idea that sunshine is harmful, and sunscreen is necessary to protect against melanoma cancer, is a widespread myth. Sunscreen in fact promotes cancer, by blocking your skin’s absorption of ultraviolet rays from the sun, which is virtually your body’s only source of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is a great protector against cancer. Canadian cancer researcher Dr. E. Giovannucci has challenged anyone to find anything that has more consistent anti-cancer benefits than Vitamin D. In one study, the number of people who reduced their risk of cancer by taking a Vitamin D supplement was so high, at 60 percent, that the figure was at first believed to be a typo error. Vitamin D is now the world’s most commonly deficient vitamin. It’s obvious to most people, that unlike other kinds of skin cancer, melanoma seldom occurs in areas of the body subject to sunburn. The incidence of melanoma in Australia is lower among surf lifesavers, than office workers. Research has also shown that people who have high sun exposure, prior to contracting melanoma, have a much better survival rate than those with limited sun exposure. Research also found that men with high exposure to sunshine, had half the risk of prostate cancer. Sunburn, should of course be avoided. But if sun is not the main cause of melanoma, what is? The answer is, excess omega 6 oils (margarine and vegetable oils) and not enough omega 3 (fish and flaxseed oils). To quote from the "Cancer Research" journal: "Epidemiological, experimental, and mechanistic data implicate omega-6 fat as stimulators and long-chain omega-3 fats as inhibitors of development and progression of a range of human cancers, including melanoma." One Australian study revealed a 40% reduction in melanoma for those who regularly ate omega-3 rich fish.
