CUSTOMER BULLETIN (seven)  Summer 2006-2007

From David Coory, author of the nutrition book "Stay Healthy by Supplying What's Lacking in Your Diet" and Managing Director of Zealand Publishing House.

Dear Valued Customer

Welcome to our Summer catalogue. We hope you enjoy good health throughout the summer.

CAA now available Iron free

To make CAA health benefits available to a wider number of New Zealanders, we are now making CAA available in three extra alternatives. One of these is Iron free.

About 19,000 New Zealanders suffer from a gene disorder called Haemochromatosis, where the body cannot properly regulate its iron levels. As a result iron levels often rise too high.

Sufferers are usually unaware that they suffer from this disorder. Common symptoms are tiredness, low energy, feeling vaguely unwell for long periods of time, stomach discomfort, swollen liver, joint pains, loss of sex drive, a greyish skin or a bronze complexion without exposure to sun. More about this disorder can be found on www.ironz.org.nz.

The cost of making this Iron free CAA, plus the other two alternatives mentioned below, is considerably higher than normal. This is due to the increased labour content involved in small manufacturing runs, and the printing of new labels. However we have decided to absorb the extra cost, so the price will be the same as traditional CAA.

New Iron supplement also being developed

Although too much Iron can be a problem, a much greater problem among New Zealanders is too little Iron. I have always felt uncomfortable with the small 1 mg Iron content of CAA. Percy Weston included 9 mg of Iron in his original, two day powder formula, ie 4.5 mg a day. However due to strict Australian government health restrictions, he allowed this to be cut down to 1 mg a day to gain approval for the rhomangatm tablet formula. I reluctantly also set the CAA amount at 1 mg a day, due to the very real Haemochromatosis risk mentioned above.

Due to the wide variation in iron requirements there appeared no ideal solution. The NZ RDI of iron for adult men and women is 7 mg (the USA is much higher at 18 mg). For growing teenagers the NZ RDI is 12 mg, and during pregnancy 22 mg a day.

However I recently received a report of two teenage girls and a woman of child-bearing age, all three taking the Triple Pack who have tested low in iron. This has prompted me to do something about this Iron problem.

Therefore Brett Elliott the Herbalist and myself are developing a natural Iron supplement for those with higher iron needs – teenagers, athletes and child-bearing age women.

Our view at this stage is that it should be taken only once a week to avoid any constipation risk, and to keep the cost low. Hopefully this will be available early next year.

I am also looking at increasing the Iron in regular CAA to 5 mg.

If you are allergic to Sulphur, try CAA without Sulphur

We now also have CAA available without Sulphur. About 200,000 New Zealanders are allergic to Sulphur, especially asthmatics. The organic MSM Sulphur used in CAA is meant to be non-allergenic, but many people are not willing to take the risk, or are highly sensitive to any Sulphur.

If CAA makes you light headed, try CAA without Niacin

We also have CAA available without Niacin. For a long time we have had reports from light framed women (including my own wife Marie) about feeling light-headed, or having an increased pulse rate after taking CAA. We have traced this effect to the Niacin (Vitamin B3) content. Removing this appears to have overcome the problem completely.

Niacin is comparatively easy to obtain from the diet. See advert on back page of this catalogue.

Pricing simplification

In developing a more efficient software program, we have had to simplify our pricing structures. As most of our customers are moving to our highly recommended and well-priced Triple Packs, we will retain the four pricing options only with the Triple Packs, and offer just two pricing options for CAA, Coral C and CoQ10-Omega3 when purchased separately.

Post-it-on change

Also in connection with this, from the 1st of November we will offer free Post-It-On gift bottles of CAA and Coral C with a Triple Pack purchase only.

This means, for every Triple Pack you buy, we are prepared to courier free as a gift from you to a friend or family member of your choice, who are not already on our records, to a residential address within NZ, a free bottle of CAA and Coral C to try for themselves. The value of this gift is $80.

We will also offer them the option of upgrading their gift to a Triple Pack through buying a bottle of CoQ10-Omega3 at the low four pack price of $49.

The best time to take CoQ10

It is becoming apparent, that for most of our customers, because of its stimulating effects, the best time to take CoQ10-Omega3 is during the first half of the day.

And due to the sleep-enhancing effects of CAA and Coral C, it is better to take these with the evening meal.

However these are just guidelines. We are all different. Experiment and do whatever works best for you.

Garden fertiliser product

We have decided not to proceed with the general purpose garden fertiliser mentioned in the May 2006 bulletin. In our experiments to-date we have been disappointed with results. We put this down to the wide variation in soil types and requirements. This product appears to work well on farm land, but this involves soil testing and tailoring the fertiliser to individual soil requirements.

Blood and bone still appears to be the best all round (and healthy) fertiliser for home gardens, and Sulphate of Ammonia and Sulphate of Iron for lawns.

CanSalve skin cancer treatment

We have had nothing but favourable reports regarding our CanSalve skin cancer treatment, which we advertise for use under the guidance of a medical professional. However we have had a call from a Mt Maunganui skin cancer surgeon genuinely concerned at the potential risk of self-treatment of skin cancers. His concern was due to the danger of a melanoma going unrecognised and possibly metastasising.

I had the same concern myself last year, and as a result included a melanoma-identification chart in our last catalogue. (This has already resulted in at least one positive identification of melanoma that had gone unrecognised by a woman customer.)

However this surgeon told me that even professionals cannot always recognise a melanoma without lab tests. So we have discontinued advertising CanSalve.

Excision is still the preferred medical treatment method for basal cell and melanoma cancers. However we will still make herbal bloodroot extract available for professional use to treat cancers in areas of the body where surgical scars would be disfiguring.

We advise our customers not to take risks where melanoma may be suspected and to seek professional advice without delay.

Sunshine is health promoting

We here at Health House wish you a most pleasant summer. Please get adequate sunshine, as it is highly health promoting, but of course, strictly avoid sunburn. Especially highlight this to children and teenagers, as I am sure you do.

Kindest regards, David Coory.
