A big thank you to our customers who made September 2008 our best month ever for sales. This is so satisfying to us, as it shows us that our commitment to quality products is truly appreciated by our customers.

Some alert customers have pointed out to us that the label on the picture in our new Vitamin C Sprinkle advert in the last catalogue showed a different amount of Vitamin C than mentioned in the text. This was due to us using a draft label for the photo. None of our proof readers, including myself picked it up.

Even more embarrassing, especially for me, was the statement in the advert that Ascorbic Acid is exactly the same as natural Vitamin C made in our body, when nearly everybody knows that humans can’t make Vitamin C. What should have been written was that "Ascorbic Acid is exactly the same as the natural Vitamin C found in food." Sorry about that.

We are still getting a few Colloidal Silver ppm meters returned for checking due to suspect readings, usually too high.

About half of these meters test fine. The others just need the probe face scrubbed for 15 seconds with a toothbrush and hot soapy water and rinsed under a hot tap and dried with a paper tissue. So please try cleaning if you suspect a faulty reading.

We have never had a faulty black Colloidal Silver ppm meter.

Our Christmas-New Year close down is from the 25th of December to the 11th January. To be sure of delivery before Christmas, it would be best to order by Friday 19th December.

Orders will still be taken during the close down period, and dispatched on the 12th Jan.

If you are visiting Tauranga after January 11, we would love you to visit our Health House shop, located at our new factory, 61 Maleme St, Greerton. It is not far from the City Council Transfer Station, opposite Pick-a-Part.

Health House have never had a supplement price increase, only price decreases. This has been due to our growth and bulk manufacturing. However cost increases have finally caught up with us, mostly due to a 30% devaluation of the NZ dollar against the American dollar, which we use to pay for imported our ingredients. This has made an up to 10% increase inevitable in our next catalogue.

However we will hold the prices in this Nov- Dec catalogue until the last day of February 2009. Triple packs will go from $105 to $115 (or two or more $109). CAA and Coral C will become $44 and CoQ10-Omega3 will be held at $49 in the meantime. (We are now using the world’s finest Japanese CoQ10 in this wonderful product.)

Also some households have not bought from us for a year. If you think yours might be one of these, please check the address label on the back of your posted print catalogue. If there is **** after your name you fall into this category, according to our records. We would love you to buy something, so we can continue to send you our catalogue for another year.

SafeSlim continues to be very popular. It has now become apparent that it’s better to drink it when already hungry for a meal, rather than hours before the meal, as the hunger suppressing effect can wear off.

Also the label instructions are to drink a second half glass of water immediately after taking SafeSlim. But it's now recognised that it’s best to drink this second half glass of water, before taking SafeSlim. Otherwise it washes most of the sweet taste of the natural plant Stevia from your mouth.

Our wonderful factory staff at Zealand Health Manufacturing (ZHM) are becoming so efficient that the manager is finding it difficult to provide them enough work. There is spare capacity in the factory. How to get the optimum amount of anti-oxidants from food

Scientists have proven a strong link between lack of antioxidants in our body and disease, especially age-related disorders like memory and eye macular problems.

Because antioxidants lose much of their disease-fighting power when they are isolated from the mother plant, the most effective way of getting them is from whole plant sources, especially nuts, fruit, vegetables and herbs.

The ORAC test

The ORAC test measures a food’s antioxidant activity. Nutritionists recommend 4,000 ORAC units per day for optimum health. The average person gets only about 1400.

The following list is the average ORAC values from antioxidant rich foods (plus or minus 50% according to soil quality).

These values are per 100 grams, or 100 mls of food. So if a serving of food weighs 50 grams or 50 mls you need to halve the figure. Or if it weighs 200 grams you need to double it.

An apple or a banana weighs about 200 gms and a kiwifruit about 100 gms. A Granny Smith apple scores 3900 per 100 grams on the ORAC scale, but because it weighs 200 grams you would double this, and obtain a value of 7800 per apple.
