young people break bones so easily, an important experiment was
done in 2002 by the Dept of Human Nutrition, Kansas State
University.
Rats, which are similar to humans in bone
nutrition,
were fed a diet very low in iron and in calcium.
After 5 weeks (equivalent to 5 human years)
the results were alarming. The rats bones lost 90% of their
strength, compared to the control rats, and snapped very easily.
